Behind the Photo

I took this photo on my way back to Bangkok from Koh Samui, exhausted after a long day of travel. After getting off my last stop on the above-ground Skytrain, I went down the first set of stairs and turned the corner to this scene — motorbikes weaving through lanes like they didn’t exist right below me. The composition grabbed me, so I dug through my bag for my camera. I took one quick shot of an almost empty street and kept walking. After a few steps, I realized it didn’t fully capture the energy of Bangkok’s transportation culture. I turned back, waited for the next green light, and took this photo — well worth the five-minute delay getting to my hostel.
